News from Plot 60
As a result of the freakishly warm March weather and/or the large amount of fine Worthing seaweed mounded on top, Paul and Sarah had the delicious pleasure of sharing their first asparagus spear of 2012 a whole two months early!!
Delicious with a creamy Hollandaise Sauce..!
Guess who got to eat the tip? Can't see any others appearing yet though.
Just wondering if any other plot holders have had unseasonal produce yet???
Sarah consumed the tip by the way!
And talking of consumption - are there any delicious recipes out there?
Send them in!

News from Plot No. 2
After much putting off the inevitable (knowing it was going to be a hard slog!) John and John (half way up the hill on the right just below the lovely Iris Borgers) got their 2012 potato crop in today.
This is the bed before digging commenced!
Four varieties of potato have been planted which were purchased from Thompson & Morgan (the Heritage Collection) and they are (from top to bottom in the picture below), as follows:
Yetholm Gypsy - (early maincrop) - Kept going by the Little family of Yetholm, the only known variety to show red, white and blue colours together in the skin. The flesh is cream, fairly dry and tasty, and suitable for baking, roasting, mash, boiling, or chips.
Shetland Black - (second early) - Shallow eyed tubers with dark blue to almost black skin, and pale yellow floury flesh with a distinctive purple vascular ring. A Victorian general purpose variety for baking, roasting or steaming.
Salad Blue - (early maincrop) - A vigorous maincrop variety with attractive blue/ purple flowers. Contrary to its name, the spectacular blue, floury flesh, of this unusual coloured potato is best suited to baking, roasting, mash, boiling or chips.
Highland Burgundy Red - (maincrop) - Burgundy red flesh, with a fluffy texture and delicious sweet flavour. An excellent general purpose potato that retains its colour well if steamed rather than boiled.
2 hours later and they're all in *phew*
As well as potatoes, some onions and salad vegetables were started and a bed or two were weeded/tidied in preparation for planting. A G&T is most definitely deserved!!!
What is everyone else planting/sowing or cropping right now???

OTHAS Fox
Thanks to Jasia, one of our plot-holders for the following pictures of the rather handsome resident OTHAS fox:
Do you need a hand?
Is that a ham sarnie you've got there?
Yup, definitely a ham sarnie! Share?

Free Top Soil
Message from Jasia one of our plot-holders:
There are several bags of free top soil available to whoever can collect it. I saw the advert on freecycle and went today. Unfortunately I could barely lift them into my car so only managed to get 2 bags! But there were about 15 left when I was there this afternoon. Very handy for raised beds or clay soil.
Address is 15 Glengall Road, which is off Old Kent Road, Peckham.
Just help yourself, it's in the front garden.
Thanks for the tip-off Jasia!
Go and get your muck people!
